Art Movement Announces Summer of Stone and Steel Public Sculpture Exhibition and Raffle

5 Sculptures Commissioned to Celebrate and Express Joliet’s Built Environment

The Art Movement, Joliet’s art nonprofit seeking to ignite passion and visibility for local artists, today announced the second annual public sculpture exhibition and raffle, Summer of Stone and Steel. The Art Movement has commissioned five sculptures themed after our city’s heritage of stone and steel. The program is generously sponsored by the City of Joliet Arts Commission, the Joliet Township government, and the City Center Partnership.

“In many ways, stone and steel made Joliet vibrant, gritty, and growth-oriented,” said Art Movement President Eryn Blaser. “Our local art community is vibrant, gritty, and growing, too. Summer of Stone and Steel is a way to both celebrate the heritage of our city’s built environment and also a pathway to recognition for local artists.”

“Joliet is a special place, with a history of triumph and struggle poetically evoked by the materials of our built environment, stone and steel,” said City of Joliet Arts Commission President Quinn Adamowski. “I look forward to experiencing the creative ways our local artists are able to commemorate and comment on our history and identity.”

Six artists have been commissioned to create sculptures:

  • Angelica Aguilar

  • Kelly Bartels

  • Erick “ROHO” Garcia

  • Brittanie Rousseau

  • A two-person team of Alicia Diamond and Sarah Potter

Sculptures selected for Summer of Stone and Steel commissions will be unveiled at a special public event on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at 6:00 pm at Juliet’s Tavern; displayed at local business and at select events for the remainder of the summer; and then raffled off no later than September 30, 2022. Proceeds will defray the costs of the commissions; any remaining proceeds will fund Art Movement programs.
